  • ARRA aka Stimulus

    American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

These words will become an important part of the industries and suppliers that SEA is currently working with.  A quick look at the disbursement of funds reveal many sectors of energy and environment are impacted.

As funds trickle down to the various government agencies we can anticipate serious discussion about programs that were too costly to fund in the past.   Many Alternative Fuel and GHG projects will get a second look.  It appears the EPA is on the same page as discussed in this News Letter.

Schnarre Engineering and Associates is in discussions with various groups to provide a ‘full service’ solution for industries and suppliers.  Stay tuned, this will get interesting.

  • CFD Modeling tools

Solving process issues, incorporating Alternative Fuels or benchmarking emmissions are just some of many tasks that CFD modeling can provide.  With the continuous improvement of  computer processing capabilities many of the tasks performed today were not possible years ago.  As the computing power increases and drives the convergence time down from it’s current level of days (for complex combustion) the day will come where CFD will be an excellent engineering tool for the process engineer to solve complex process issues at the plant level.

Schnarre Engineering promotes and uses CFD wherever possible to ensure optimized solutions are achieved before the process is changed.

Here’s an example of a kiln/hood assembly with velocity vector distribution along the burner axis.

Another example below shows particle trajectories and burn out of individual coal particles in a cement calciner.

These represent a small example of what the technology is capable of doing.

Think about using CFD next time you have a process related issue.

  • California’s AB-32 Bill

With the recent news of President Obama supporting the AB-32 initiative, California and 13 other states are poised to start implementing the climate change bill AB-32 which requires the reversal of GHG emmissions by 2020 to 1990 levels.   Further information is available in the AB-32 link or in this PDF.
